A little bit about me as a teacher
I graduated May 2010 from Texas A&M- Corpus Christi with a bachelors in special education. I have taken and passed all of my educational tests and have received my certification in the field of special education.

From January 2008 to May 2008 I preformed a practicum in an AE class at Meadowbrook Elementary school in CCISD, under the supervision of Patti Bean. In August of 2008 I continued my practicum under Ms. Bean’s supervision. After completing my practicum, I was asked by Ms. Bean to be her substitute teacher’s aid for one month while her aid recovered from a broken leg. Since then, I have done volunteer work at the school several times.

During the Summer of 2009 I worked for American Habilitation Services at Corpus Christi’s Human Development Center. My responsibilities there were that of a personal care giver. I fed, bathed, and cared for a group of 6 adults with special needs. During my time at the Human Development Center I was able to see a side of working with individuals with special needs that many never get the chance to.

In the Fall of 2009 I began my Field Experience at Webb Elementary School in a Third grade general education class under the supervision of Celina Medillion. During this time I took over many of the classroom responsibilities and got to see the inner workings of a school.

My most recent educational experience has been my student teaching. I worked under the supervision of Christine Cowan at Kids of The Neighborhood Head Start. My experiences here were very different than that of many because I was not at a public school. Ms. Cowan is an employee of CCISD that is contracted to work at Kids of The Neighborhood as a Co-Teacher in four different classrooms. I worked with 6 students with special needs ranging from ages three to five. Also during my time at Kids of The Neighborhood, I helped organize their young athletes program. YAP is an early head start on Special Olympics. All students in the school are asked to participate in the young athletes games to promote acceptance and understanding of their peers.

Through my practicum, substituting, and student teaching work I have confirmed my commitment and ability to work with people that have varying levels of special needs. In the Fall I hope to continue my education through night school and become ABA certified so that I can better assist all of my students. I hope you will give me an opportunity to take the next step in my career. Teaching is my career but special education is my passion.
A good teacher is like a candle- it consumes itself to light the way for others
